Organizational Learning

Organizational learning should be considered an important and essential component of the effectiveness of Care Africa Community Initiatives Uganda. Organizational learning can be a complex and difficult process.  This is why it must be something that is embedded in all aspects of our programming and not treated as an add-on.  Organizational learning involves a process of capturing, analyzing, storing, retrieving and disseminating relevant and appropriate information that adds value to the organization and its aims.

To help this happen we will actively encourage staff and partners to reflect upon their experience, record those experiences and share them with others. In a relationship where mutual learning and mutual respect are core elements. We recognize that learning from our mistakes is as, or even more, important than learning from our successes. Learning is a constructive and enabling process which should be used to enhance and strengthen a partnership and provide direction for future activities and guide others.

Using feedback and recommendations from internal monitoring and external evaluations are crucial in building our knowledge base but we shouldn’t stop there. Informal learning is as compelling and valuable as more structured and formal methods. There are many theories and approaches to organizational learning. Care Africa Community Initiatives Uganda will aim to select a small number of highly effective methods and pilot them in different areas with different partners and stakeholders. After evaluating their effectiveness we will apply the most effective methods across the country programme therefore replicating best practice. Care Africa Community Initiatives Uganda aims to become an effective and proactive learning organization where staff, partners and stakeholders are encouraged and supported to learn from their own experiences and the experiences of others.
